Ozark Sanctuary Conservation Easement
Mentioning the Ozarks stirs up special feelings for those of us living in the area. HIlls and hollers, oak and hickory forests, clear streams, springs and caves. Deer browsing, squirrels scurrying around, woodpeckers drumming and the occasional armadillo rooting through the forest floor. A peaceful environment. The Ozarks draw tourists for those reasons as well as new residents.
In Northwest Arkansas the edge of the peaceful environment has been eroding. With population growth the city boundaries are expanding. But more importantly has been the explosive increase in “exurbs”, the wide fringe of true Ozarks that has become pockmarked with estates and McMansions that have transplanted city styles over the Ozark environment. A few acres here and there where woods are replaced by a large house and huge shop building surrounded by closely cropped mono-turf, cutting another chunk out of the Ozarks.
Our goal in establishing the conservation easement is to protect a portion of of the Ozarks envrionment, providing a refuge for wildlife and a site for peaceful visitation.
